South Korea
Junbae Bang
Andrea Plus

Please tell us a little bit about yourself:

Hi, I am Junbae Bang from the Andrea Plus Coffee Lab. Currently, I am a barista for the company, and I am currently working on general QC, training, and coffee R&D. It has been eight-years since I began in specialty coffee and it has been five-years since I started in competition. I’ve entered competitions each year because I wanted to convey the great attraction of specialty coffee to customers. Through this challenge, we are making a lot of effort to convey the attraction of specialty coffee to people. With the WBC being held in Korea, and as the representative of Korea, I will do my best to this promote the excellence of South Korean coffee and baristas.

What are you excited to do while you are in Seoul?:

More practice and thorough preparation will be made for the perfect presentation.

Please list the coffee competitions you have participated in, what year they took place, and your results:

2014 Korea National Barista Championship – 4th Place
2015 Korea National Barista Championship – 5th Place
2016 Korea National Barista Championship – 2nd Place
2017 Korea National Barista Championship – 1st Place

Is there anyone you would like to thank or recognize, or who helped you to prepare for the WBC?:

Thank you to Chairman of the Korean Coffee Association, Sang Gyu Lee. To all my company members, including Andrea and Sang Hyeon Choi.
And I’d also like to give thanks and pay respect to Barista Jin kyu Kim.

How do you see the coffee industry changing in the future?:

I think we’ll see the development of coffee tools that everybody can easily enjoy anywhere, and the home barista market growing.

Where do you see yourself in 5 years?:

Maybe I will open up a new brand of stores, and improve business for specialty coffee.

What are your interests outside of coffee?:

I love fashion and travelling.
