Bean & Burner

Please tell us a little bit about yourself:

I have worked with coffee for four years now. As barista, barista trainer and roaster — I’ve tried several positions in this industry but being behind the bar has not met it’s match.

What are you excited to do while in Seoul?:

My friend moved to Seoul about year ago so I’m looking forward to her showing us around. Places to enjoy coffee and good food at obviously. And Mikkeller!!

Please list the coffee competitions you have participated in, what year they took place, and your results:

Finnish Barista Championship 2014, 3rd Place
Finnish Aeropress Championship 2014, 2nd Place
Finnish Barista Championship 2015, 3rd Place
Finnish Barista Championship 2016, 1st Place
World Barista Championship 2016, 25th Place
The Barista League Helsinki, 2nd Place
Finnish Barista Championship 2017, 1st Place

Is there anyone you would like to thank or recognize, or who helped you to prepare for the WBC?

So. Many. People. Here goes: Mia & Petri for teaching me everything about coffee and supporting me since day one in my career. Alexander & Teija for advice and helping me to get access to the tastiest coffees in the world. And most importantly: Kaisa for doing this crazy thing with me yet again. She is the best coach/girlfriend/designer anybody could ask for!

How do you see the coffee industry changing in the future?:

It’s getting more convenient to prepare. I don’t think the appreciation of the craft is going anywhere. You just don’t have to be into that geeky stuff to enjoy the good coffee.

Where do you see yourself in 5 years?:

Hopefully still living the coffee dream! I don’t see myself changing fields any time soon.

What are your interests outside of coffee?

I like to spend time in nature and I’m getting quite good at bird watching! I clear my head by playing my guitar on a daily basis.
